Seven small changes that change the whole face

Most makeup problems after fifty aren't about your skin. They're habits from the nineties. Here's what I fix first, and every one is free.

  1. Press, don't drag

    Dragging foundation pushes it into every fine line. Tap and roll it in with a damp sponge, and use less.

  2. Hydrate first

    Makeup grabs dry patches. One minute of moisture before color, and everything sits smoother.

  3. Powder only where you shine

    Skip the all-over powder and the baking. A little in the T-zone is plenty.

  4. Soften and lift your brows

    One shade lighter, short feathery strokes, brushed upward. Rested, not severe.

  5. Open the eye

    Leave the lower rim alone and tight-line the top. Definition without the cage.

  6. Blush an inch higher

    Sweep it up and out along the cheekbone, and choose satin over dark matte lips.

  7. Choose foundation like a pro

    Test on the jaw in daylight and wear a sample for hours before you decide.
